Mammography

A regular breast cancer screening program can significantly reduce mortality from breast cancer. An important part of such a program is a routine mammogram. A mammogram is a special x-ray of the breast that can detect many breast cancers in their earliest, most treatable stages. COMCARE utilizes digital mammography which relays the virtually instantaneous images to our on-site radiologists. This allows results to be given to our patients usually before they leave their appointment. Previous mammograms are needed for the radiologist to compare from one year to the next. Although all mammography systems still require compression to the breast to get optimum results, at COMCARE, we work with our patients to enable the best outcome with this process for maximum comfort. We also utilize the iCAD (Computer-Aided Detection) "second look" reading for our mammograms. This advancement reduces the need for multiple exposures, while offering improved imaging characteristics. Our technologists have mammography registry certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). The department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
